Emergency dentists cater for a wide range of problems, including everything from general toothache to cracked and damaged teeth. If you are nervous about going to the dentist, or don’t have dental insurance then you may want to put off seeking dental treatment until you can get to a regular dentist. This is certainly a valid option but it may not be ideal for you if you have certain things wrong with your teeth. Here are three occasions where you should seek immediate treatment.
1 – A Tooth Gets Knocked Out
If a tooth is completely knocked out of your mouth you should put it in a glass of milk to preserve it and then seek immediate treatment from a dentist. The more quickly you seek advice, the more likely it is that the dentist will be able to salvage the tooth.
2 – A Tooth is Chipped or Craked, Exposing the Root
If you crack or chip a little enamel but there is no pain and the dentine/root is not exposed then you might be able to use an emergency dental care kit to take care of the tooth for a day or so, but ideally you should seek advice as quickly as possible. If the root is exposed, cover the root with sugar free gum to help reduce the pain and head to a dentist immediately.
3 – You Have Very Severe Toothache
If you have very severe toothache that will not go away, or you are experiencing swelling alongside the tooth ache, see a dentist immediately. You may have an abscess and this could get a lot worse if it is left untreated.
Preventative dental care is always the best option, but emergency dentists exist to look after you when disaster strikes.
