If you notice that your tooth is broken and/or chipped, you are going to want to see a local emergency dentist as soon as you possibly can. Otherwise, your tooth can suffer even more damage or possibly get infected as a result. This can unfortunately lead to tooth loss.
Small Chipped Tooth:
The good news is that if you do have a chipped tooth, your dentist will be able to fill your damage with a filling. If the damage is done to your front teeth, we can repair it with a bonding procedure which is one in which we utilize composite resin that looks tooth colored. Bonding is a very simple procedure that does not actually require a numbing agent.
Large Chipped Tooth:
If you suffer significant damage to your teeth and/or tooth, we will be able to fix it by grinding part of the remaining piece of tooth and covering it with a crown or a tooth shaped cap that is made to be able to protect the remaining piece of the tooth and also to improve the appearance of it.
If the entire off and damaged but the root remains intact, we will be able to perform a root canal on your tooth and essentially place a ‘post’ in the canal which will build up enough of a structure to allow for a crown to be made and placed. Once this process is completed, we can cement the crown over the actual post. Getting a crown can take up to two dentist visits.
The bottom line is, if you suffer from a broken tooth, you will want to give our call right away. We will be sure to provide you with the best emergency dental care that we can.
